A New Day Begins: Free Elections in South Africa
This is the election in which Nelson Mandela, a former political prisoner for 27 years, was elected president. After more than 300 years of white domination, South Africa held its first democratic election in April 1994. The unusual ballot features color pictures of the 19 political party leaders who ran for national election and their party symbol.
